Hi everybody!. Well concerning fears and phobias and after having read the article, I realized that I have a kind of phobia. It is a phobia of storms.
ResponderEliminarAll began not so many years ago. It was a hot summer day, I was on holiday with my family in Cayasta. After having spent the whole day fishing, we decided to return home as the sky was turning cloudy and dark. A great storm was approaching. At that time, I was not afraid of storms, so I didn't worry about.
No sooner had we arrived at home, than a terrible strom blew up. The wind was blowing so strong that it shook all the doors and windows and the water came through everywhere. The storm lasted no more than 15', but it was the worst I've seen in my life.
Once the storm passed, we went out the house to see if there was any damage. Fortunately, we didn't suffer material damages , but some neighbouring houses lost their roofs, there were cut wires and thousands of fallen trees. It was a disaster.
From that day onwards, I began to be afraid of storms and I don't know how to overcome it!
Not a very nice experience Gina, was it? Some storms may be really scary! I guess many people feel panic when big storms occur. I hope that will be "as bad as it gets" with storms!!
EliminarHi girls! Well, I don't think I have any phobias, but I do fell fear of insects, particularly spiders. It is not that whenever I spot an spider I run away, screaming frantically like a crazy woman, but I do feel a huge feeling of disgust and repugnance. Sometimes, my fears and anxiety is so great when I see one, that the only way I find to calm down is by killing it with all kind of insecticides! And, until I don’t see the spider die I don’t stop spraying it! hahaha
ResponderEliminarCu guys!!
Spiders!!!! Spooky!!!! Mainly those big and hairy ones!!!, though they say they are mostly harmless, but they make your hair stand on end, it's true!
EliminarWell... I have two important fears to mention. One is disgusting, and I think most of the people fear them… I’m talking about cockroaches! (I looked the word up in the dictionary to write it properly and there was a picture of one next to the word!! It was horrible :S ) Anyway, I hate them, and I’m always afraid that they might start flying and get tangled in my hair.
ResponderEliminarAs an anecdote, I can mention that one day when I was at highschool, out of nowhere, a cockroach appeared in my bench and, in desperation, I grabbed the bench and, screaming, I threw it away producing a terrible noise. All the class gave me a disconcerted look, and when I tried to explain that there was a cockroach in my bench, no one believed me because the insect had gone! And nobody had seen it except for me! It was really embarrassing.
And then, my second phobia... I have to admit that the “embudo” in the San Roque Lake, in Córdoba, really scares the hell out of me.
And talking about fears, I would like to share a song with you! Fear of the Dark, of the British band Iron Maiden! Hope you like it!

Bye!
ughhhh!!!! cokroaches are disgusting!!! and that nasty experience you narrate about it on your table at school is just horrible! As for you fear of the "funnel" at San Roque Lake, many people get a weird feeling when looking at it, so you're not alone in the world on that one!
EliminarI know the song and I like it very much!!! Thank you!!!
When I was a little girl ( 3 or 4 years old) I had a strong phobia of clowns! haha I know it sounds strange but it was really serious! I couldn't bear being near a clown, be it a person or a dummy. Everytime I received an invitation for a birthday party I asked the inviting person whether there were going to be clowns at his party or not. And I avoided going to parties for that reason. What's more, when I was 4 years old my parents sent me to a kindergarten which was called "Payasin" and the place was full of dummy clowns. I remember I was so scared of them! I told my parents I wanted to go to another kindergarten but they didn't believe that I had a real phobia. So one day my sister took me to the kindergarten and she realized that I my fear was truly intense! So she stayed with me all afternoon in spite of the fact that the teacher didn't allow relatives to stay with the kids! haha After that, my parents decided to take me to another kindergarten.
ResponderEliminarLuckily, as I got older I could overcome my phobia and now I'm not afraid of clowns anymore.
I would have said that nowadays I don't have any phobia, but after reading the article I realized that I have a kind of social phobia which is fear of public speaking. As you must have noticed I don't feel very comfortable talking in class. Speaking in front of others makes me get nervous. But, as the article expresses "avoiding something scary reinforces a fear and keeps it strong", so I know I have to speak in order to face my fear and overcome it. I'm really trying hard to achieve it...
It must have been just horrible to have that fear of clowns and see them in your kindergartten when you were only 4!!!
ResponderEliminarAs to your fear of speaking in public, it's good that you're working on it! you are going to be a teacher and the profession involves talking to students, to parents, to your co-workers and so on. You should make the most of the class because it's a known atmosphere, with people you like and who respect you. That should give you courage to speak your mind out and in the long run, you will gain more confidence. I'm sure it's gonna be that way!! You can count on me!
Well, I have to confess that I´m afraid of thunderstorms. In fact, I get really scared when a big storm occurs. It might sound silly, but I just can´t understand people who love sitting in the doorway or by the window as the thunder and lightning crash all around. There are also some crazy people who choose to go outside in order to play with the rain, they are so brave!
ResponderEliminarIn general, this is a fear I have had since I was a little girl. I share this terrible feeling with my grandmother who also suffers even more than me when a storm breaks.
The fierce storm that hit Rafaela last week just panicked me. I´ve never heard such a loud thunder in my whole life. The anecdote is that Luisi, my flat mate, woke up and asked me: Are you okay? The funniest thing is that I was okay because I had already gone into the closet. At those moments, I need to seek shelter beyond normal protection from the storm. Thank god, we started laughing and soon I could feel better.
Mavi, it seems there are many people who fear storms!! You're not alone!! Even though the thought of you in the closet may seem funny, I understand it's not even close to funny for you.
ResponderEliminarAs much as phobias are concerned, it seems to me that I don’t suffer from any of them. I’m trying to think if something causes on me some physical symptoms such as palms sweating, faster heartbeat or rapid breathing, but I find nothing. So, hopefully I am a free phobia person! However, there is something that I am afraid of. Actually, I don’t know if it is fear or rejection. I am talking about frogs and toads. Yes, they repelled me. I hate them. And I hate them most since I dreamt with a toad last year and still I have that dream on my mind!
ResponderEliminarI dreamt that I was sleeping on my bed and suddenly a huge, disgusting toad jumped into my bed!!! And as this animal didn’t fit in my bed since it was so big, it tried to take me out from bed by pushing me with his awful nose. And the worst thing was that I couldn’t move, I couldn’t run away because something prevented me! It was a terrifying nightmare until I woke up and realized that is was Pedro, my dog, the one who had jumped into my bed! I wanted to kill him but then I started to laugh because it ended up being a funny situation.
What a nightmare!!! Frogs and toads look quite disgusting though I believe they are quite harmless. Poor creatures!
EliminarIt's good that you have no phobias Luz!
Hi, everybody!
ResponderEliminarWell… concerning this topic, I have two fears. First, I have a fear of cats. I cannot even touch them, and I’ve feared them since I was very little. I think it started when one night, I had a horrible nightmare. I dreamt that I was at my grandma’s house and her cat attacked me and bite my leg! It was really frightening and since that moment, I cannot be near cats and I get very nervous when one of them approaches me!
Besides cats, I fear of darkness. Yes, it seems to be something silly and it’s most common in children, but I fear of being in a dark place. I cannot imagine got locked in a room, without lights… it’s so distressing!
Well, many people fear darkness, so you are not alone!!
EliminarNasty nightmare that one you had about the cat! No wonder you are afraid of them.
Hi, ladies!
ResponderEliminarAs far as the topic is concerned, I must admit that I have a kind of phobia of hens, chickens and all sort of animal with feathers that are kept freely in a farm. I believe it all started when I was a little girl and my mother transferred her fear to me. She told me that when she was a child, some hens had chased her and she had been afraid of them since that awful situation. Anyway, I’ve always tried my fear not to become a big problem, which I consider it was really positive because this fear doesn’t stop me from doing things or going to certain places like farm, the countryside, etc.
do you eat chicken Luciana or does your fear prevent you from eating anything with feathers?? I know a few people with the same problem.
EliminarHey everyone! I don't think I have a phobia of something, but I think I fear some things. For example, like Virgi said, I have a fear of cokroaches, especially because they are disgusting! They live in gutters on the street for god's sake! But the things I fear the most are spiders. They paralize me, and I start shouting if they move. I need somebody to kill them for me, and if I'm alone, I don't step on them, no way! I have to take of the shoe and then kill them.In addition, I fear the spider is carrying little baby spiders on it so when I kill it they start spreading around. That disturbes me profoundly.
ResponderEliminaryes! cokroaches are the most horrible creatures! However, I've heard they are quite clean though I don't know if it's true or not. As for spiders, try reading Charlotte's web. It's a kids' story. It might help you! You never know.
EliminarAfter thinking for a while about my phobias, I came to the conclusion that I don’t have any phobia at all, but I do have a fear, and that is fear of public speaking! It is not that I don’t like speaking, but that I don’t like being the center of attention, never! If only people could avoid turning around and looking at me while I’m speaking, that would make it easy for me to speak! However, I know it’s inevitable for people to look at someone who is speaking; in fact, it’s a sign of respect and to show that they are paying attention to what you are saying, but that is what makes me feel even more uncomfortable, that everybody is paying close attention to what I’m saying and to the way I say it. All in all, I know I have to work hard to overcome this fear, and I am doing so!
ResponderEliminarI'm glad you have no phobias!! I wish I could just NOT look at you while you're speaking but it's absolutly impossible for me! Besides, you'll be a teacher and very soon you'll be in front of a class. You have to get used to it. cheer up! it's not terrible once you are familiar with it.
